Abstract: | Training and development are required for employees to enable the company achieve itsgoal. The training and development function plays a further enhanced role and holds more importance as it deals with knowledge of workers.The training and development function holds a key responsibility by helping employees to upgrade their performance on a continuous basis.The study, therefore, sought to determine the training and development practice in ORYX International Plc. as a case study.The methodologies used to undertake the study were both primary and secondary Data collections. Census method was applied to collect primary information. Thus all the employees were involved. Accordingly, the data gathered were analyzed using descriptive statistics.Primarily the researcher used interview and questionnaireaugmented by different literatures found in the organization to collect primary data.The back bone of this study is alsothe secondary data comprised ofcomprehensive literature review and documentary sources. The result shows that ORYX training and development program effectiveness is not evaluated sufficiently and the T&D plan and policy of the organization are not clearly stated. On the job training was mostly used by the company. The training impact assessment & training need assessment are not being applied properly. Results are strongly based on the literature review. Thus, the organization should keep up with their strengths and should alleviate their weaknesses by applying clear and scientific principles regarding human resource training and development. The paper ends by offering useful suggestions to the management involved in the operations of the organization. |
