| Abstract: | Donor-funded projects in Ethiopia have evolved from simple activities to complex integrated initiatives that require careful implementation to avoid operational failures. Despite the large number of projects implemented by the public sector in Ethiopia, many have not been effectively and efficiently executed. Some projects are struggling to maintain their relevance, while others have outright failed. This highlights the need for improved project management practices and a focus on ensuring successful implementation and long-term sustainability. There is a need to study and understand why infrastructure projects, such as the Mojo Dry Port in Ethiopia, have faced implementation challenges. Specifically, the focus should be on assessing the project management practices of the World Bank Financed Project to identify areas for improvement and address the issues that have led to project failures.This study established the role of project planning, stakeholder involvement, monitoring and risk management practices and how they associated the projects management practices. In this study, 177 questionnaires were returned at the end of the data collection although a total of 207 questionnaires were distributed to a sample of employees from targeted organizations, which gave the response rate of 86 per cent. The study concluded that while planning, monitoring, and stakeholder involvement were identified as best practices in project management, the level of risk management was found to be unsatisfactory. As a result, the study recommends that the project team should establish an integrated risk management system and utilize a project tool to aid in the implementation of risk management practices. This would help improve the overall project management practices and ensure better project execution. The project plan should align with the county's mission and vision statement, specifying the goals and objectives of the project accordingly. |
