dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study is to provide a valuable insight in to the effect of parenting on the psychosocial development of children the case of South West academy. This paper looks into various kinds of parenting styles followed by families. Explanatory research deigns was used. Probability-sampling technique specifically simple random sampling techniques were used for this research to identify participants of study. A quantitative research approach is chosen in this research In order to collect primary data self-administered questionnaire (31 questions) were developed and distributed to 256 high school students were participated. To analyze the collected data multiple regression and correlation are used
The findings of this study showed that a significant relationship between parenting styles and psychosocial development. The correlation between parenting styles and psychosocial development was computed through Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r). The study found relationship between authoritative parenting style and children’s performance was significant where r = 0.57 consequently Permissive parenting have moderate relationship r= 0.59, Uninvolved parenting style have high relationship r= 0.68 finally Authoritarian and Psychosocial development have high relationship r= 0.78 The findings of the study indicate that there was a strong positive Correlation between parenting style and psychosocial development. The regression analysis clearly shows that 61.2% of variance in psychosocial development of children is explained by parenting dimensions. The study revealed neglectful parenting style has negative effect on psychosocial development of a child.
Hence, it is reasonable to conclude, on this evidence, that psychosocial can be reinforced and improved by parenting styles aimed at building child who can socialize with others, who cares about other option, can explain their own opinion. The research limitation is the data analyzed were collected from one school in Addis Ababa; more studies are required before general conclusions can be drawn. | en_US |
