Abstract: | Quality is the symbol of human civilization and with the progress of human civilization; quality control plays an incomparable role in construction business. Construction projects are an extremely complex process involving wide range participants. There are plenty of factors affecting the quality of construction material such as design, materials, machinery, methods of operation, management system and so on. This research deals with the assessment of the effectiveness of the construction material quality management system on the project as a general quality controller in some selected FDRE's General and Building Grade I construction companies in Addis Ababa which carried out mostly on the building construction materials to be used directly on the construction. Also new and existing project quality management system indicators are assessed. Through the research, the function and importance of quality were learnt and some suggestions for the quality management and control of construction material were given. The finding of the study clearly showed that most of the grade I construction companies apply the quality management system to manage their quality for each of their projects. The result indicated that majority of the contractors (63.45%) implement the material quality management system on construction projects and the system applied in the company‟s shows effective outcome according to the responses of the respondents. Therefore, it could be concluded that the practice of the quality management system is effective resulting from the factors that are identified for the assessment to collect the data. The study recommended that the sampling of research is limited to the Grade I construction companies, so that construction companies in different level may have different results because their managing culture their employees commitment and environment are different. |
