Abstract: | The performance of employees is the heartbeat of any organization on achieving organizational goals. It is essential to measure employees’ performance to achieve the target set. The performance appraisal process is one of the essential activities of the human resource department of any organization. This study tried to assess the performance appraisal practice of Camara Education Ethiopia which is an Irish-based non-governmental organization. In conducting this study, a descriptive research method was applied. This is because it allows describing the state of affairs as it exists at present. Both primary and secondary data were collected using guided interviews and questionnaires. Then SPSS was used as a tool for analyzing simple descriptive statistics such as frequency distribution and percentage. Based on the survey result. Camara Ethiopia has clearly communicated the performance appraisal criteria and gives employees the opportunity to evaluate their own performance. On the other hand, the performance appraisal practice is vulnerable to evaluator's errors and failure to use performance appraisal results for employee’s carrier development and also for pay & promotion decisions. The other issue this research spotted out is the performance evaluation form used in Camara Ethiopia is not designed based on the employee’s job characteristics. Based on these findings, the researcher recommends Camara Education Ethiopia to use performance appraisal results for pay & promotion decisions and employees’ carrier development. The researcher also recommends the organization to improve the knowledge and skill of evaluators to avoid the errors made by them during evaluation. |
