Human Resource is a valuable and crucial asset. Training and developing them must be the priority of any organization. Training is a dynamic and continuous process to improve the quality of the employees; it is an effort to improve their performance. Given the positive reinforcement of training up on the performance of employees, organizations are providing successive training to their employees with the allocation of resources. There is ample of evidence concerning the effect of the training upon the performance of employees, especially in the context of the banking sector in Ethiopia, but no real study was conducted in the case of Awash International Bank. Therefore, the objective of this study is to assess the effect of training and development on employees’ job performance in the case of Awash International Bank S.C. The research is cross-sectional type of research which is based on primary and secondary data. The primary data were collected using self-administered questionnaires distributed to 55 respondents taken as sample size from 20 selected Awash International Bank branches in Addis Ababa. The data were entered into EpiData version 3.1 and transferred to SPSS version 20 for analysis. Descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (logistic regressions) were used to analyze data. The result showed that employees were not satisfied with the existing training needs assessment of the bank and employees were moderately satisfied with training design and implementation and training evaluation. The study also found that training policy awareness among employees was low. Multiple regression analysis showed that training design and implementation and training evaluation as significant and positive predictors of employee job performance in the case of Awash International Bank. The study recommends that in order to enhance employee performance the bank should continue its training program so that it can build and strengthen employee’s competencies.en_US
