Abstract: | This study assessed the contribution of Sheger Youth Center of FGAE for youth empowerment.
The conceptual framework of the study recognizes the long existed socialization institutions in
developing countries are not transforming with the pace of the rapid social change process of the
21st century and youth center service providers need to take a supportive role in empowering the
youth. The study employed both quantitative and qualitative research methods. The data
collection work is conducted through direct interview, key informant interview, FGD and
document review. Accordingly the major finding of this study shows the service rational, the
service components and the service organization of Sheger Youth Center are making a
significant contribution for youth empowerment. Moreover the service orientation of the Youth
Center framed with international perspectives make the services relevant to address the
challenges of the youth emerging with the social change process. However, the study finding
shows the need to give further attention for establishing network and partnership between the
long existed socialization agents (like family, religion, peers, education and community) and
youth centers for addressing all the components of youth empowerment. Finally, the study also
has an implication for academicians and practitioners to emphasis on the impact and level of
influence the emerging social service sectors like youth centers have on the overall development
of the youth population. |
